The Organization
Getting around is an activity we, people who have sight, take for granted
(but is a great miracle for the blind).
Over 10,000 blind persons live in Israel, many of them veterans of Israel's wars. The demand for seeing eye dogs far exceeds the supply, and there is a long waiting list.
Seeing Eyes for the Blind of Israel is a non-profit organization, situated at Kibbutz Sasa. The organization was founded in order to provide each blind person with a seeing eye dog, so that he/she can enjoy the same mobility and independence as a seeing person.
The organization's school, opened in 1989, trains seeing eye dogs and instructs the blind person on how to handle the seeing eye dog assigned to him/her.
The dog's training, the instruction and the house calls offered by the organization's representatives are provided to the blind person free of charge.
Seeing Eyes for the Blind of Israel is supported by contributions of private individuals, companies and funds, who believe in this important project.
